Great app! Im feeling more motivated to play again now that Ive used this Primer.
I expected that this app would be at least slightly "gamelike", in presenting musical exercises and analyzing how accurately one could repeat a note or a scale. Its basically just a tuner that allows you to record audio and it graphs the pitch along a musical axis. I suppose its a useful analysis instrument, but its hardly the ear-training primer it is marketed as.
Ive been playing clarinet for some years now and I must say, after having played with this app for a couple of weeks, my pitch purity hearing has developed to be more accurate. There arent any readymade exercises as another reviewer pointed out, but if you are proficient enough to make your own, its no problem. I just make loops of scales and other stuff, play, listen, adjust, play, listen.. and so on. Great tool, for pitch purity and tuning. Four stars.
This app doesnt record and neither does it work well in standby mode 100% of the time. Please dont waste your money.
This app dose not have changeable skins! This is a lie. The app only has a white paper skin look. There are no direction for the app any where to be found. Wast of money! Pass on this app!
If you believe in using a tuner and recording yourself to improve your intonation, this app would be a bargain even if it was more than $10. Forget about changeable skins, file exporting, etc.. You can pay somebody to listen for and correct your out of tune notes. Or you can see and hear them yourself with this app. The beauty of it is hearing the same passage replayed a second time WITH YOUR SOUND tuned the way it should be according to the A, temperament, and root note you choose (with equal temperament of course no root is required). You dont have to keep hitting record, stop, and play again as it does all of that automatically. Yes there is room for improvement (the display can be too jumpy, please move all the settings within the app itself so you dont need to go to the iPhone settings, improve the readout so #s and bs are more legible next to the note names, make the timeout slider be a specific duration for starters). But I am already a devoted user and have gifted it to other pro musicians. Its on my home screen along with Cleartune, iStrobosoft, and Metronomics. - Joshua Gordon, cellist, Lydian String Quartet, faculty member at Brandeis University
It really isnt bad on a larger screen device, so Im revising my review from a while back. I do wish it could export the recordings. It also doesnt work well with the iRig mic.
Ive had this app now for about 3 years and it crashes constantly, doesnt record of you have headphones in then pull them out if I record without headphones then afterwards when Im listening to it with them in it will either sound all choppy and static or it will play the song I recorded really slow like half the original bpm, and youll be recording something then for no reason even though your still playing loudly it will just stop recording and mess you all up. I just use it now to tune my guitar
